Deer Lake's many miles of shoreline and underwater structure provide a challenge to those who love to fish.
Though Deer Lake is probably best known for its trophy muskie, it also produces plenty of nice walleye, smallmouth bass, and northern pike.
Walleye are most numerous in the spring, while muskie thrive toward the end of the fall season. Find your own secluded fishing spot, or ask us — we're happy to share the best areas for any type of fishing in spring, summer, or fall.
Each cabin comes with a 14 foot aluminum boat. Motors are available for rent, or bring your own for a memorable muskie or walleye fishing experience — Comfort Cove bay is perfect for protecting your larger boat from the elements.
If the day is simply too calm and laziness calls, cast a line from the bench at the end of the dock. You'll catch mostly smallmouth and rock bass, but occasionally a walleye or pike.
Muskie Fishing
The clear blue waters and underwater landscape of Deer Lake are uniquely suited to a high population of prize muskie. Located right on the shore, we've come to know a thing or two about muskie fishing — if you're new to the sport, we're happy to help.
Gear
Long rods are ideal for muskie — 8 to 9 feet at least. Just as important is a strong, reliable line: muskie anglers suggest 100 lb test braided line paired with a 150 to 200 lb test leader.
Docking
Each cabin rental includes a 14 foot aluminum boat and free bay docking for your own boat. Motor day rentals are available to any Pineridge guest. Due to restrictions, some larger personal boats may need to use the public boat launch.
Bait
Muskie are finicky eaters, so choosing the right bait is key. Fresh, live bait and proper line handling can make all the difference — and since we're so close to Grand Rapids, fresh bait is easy to come by. If you prefer lures or artificial baits, we can help you find what works best.
